Clinical Studies of Paranoia


Abstract
This study is intended to investigate the general clinical characteristics of 37 cases of paranoia in Korea, who were confirmed in the Department of neuropsychiatry, Woo Sok Hospital, Korea University during the period from Jan. 1st, 1963 until Dec. 31th, 1972.
The results were as follows:
1. According to the clinical categories, the jealous type was most frequently observed, and occupied 59.46% of all.
2. The ratio of male patient and female patient was 1:1.17.
3. The mean age of the disorder was 40.67 years old.
4. Educational background of the disorder showed higher educational level than the other psychoses especially schizophrenia.
5. Socioeconomic background. of these patients showed higher level than the other psychoses.
6. As to the marital status, 96.30% of all experienced marriage, and 86.49% of all of them were maintaining marital life.
7. As to the occupational histories, 94.59% of all the patients were keeping their occupation(including house-wife).
8. In their family background it was revealed that unstable marital status of parents occupied 67.5% of all and 1st born and only child occupied 5405%.
9. As to the precipitating events according to the clinical categories, the sexual problem was the most frequent one in the jealous types, and the occupational and family problems were the most frequent ones in the persecutory types.
10. As to the objects of delusions according to the clinical categories, the spouse was the most frequent object in the jealous types, and the other family member was the most frequent object in the persecutory types.
11. As to the themes of delusions according to the clinical categories, the cases of jealous types had jealous delusion only but in the cases of persecutory delusions some of them had idea of reference at
the-same time.
